Specificity and Abundance

“When you ask the Universe for something, be specific.”

This is something I say, partially in jest, but I’m finding that I should have heeded my own advice. Several years ago, I asked to be able to have my work seen and purchased in venues other than the grueling, though often successful series of summer outdoor art festivals. Soon after that request, friends we met at our favorite Maryland festival asked me to become one of the charter artists in their new gallery (longtime Artventuring readers know the DISTRICT Arts story). This venue has been a wonderful one for me; I have sold many pieces of my work over my 5 years there (the latest one traveled to the home of a collector in Jakarta, Indonesia!). I was asked to be one of the charter artists at a gallery here in Raleigh. Earlier this year, the NCMA Store opportunity arose, where I have been steadily selling my notecards and Leaf Dance series work. Beginning this month, I have work in the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, Virginia, and will have a solo show in their Midway Gallery, between July 18 and September 30. Three of my bamboo plates sold at auction this month in Richmond, Virgina. Inquiries come through my website, and I will be participating juried outdoor shows in April, May, and June. This all makes me tired just writing it!

Keeping galleries and shops stocked while still teaching, volunteering, creating new work, and art consulting is a major juggling act, but my Virgo nature thrives on being able to organize, prioritize, and keep all the balls in the air. This level of abundance is wonderful, exhilarating, and a bit daunting…all because I wasn’t specific! I am thankful, and I definitely wanted all of this, but NOT ALL AT ONCE! I will power through, make it all happen, but the next time I entreat the Universe, I’ll remember my own words!
